How?

How did man discover fire?
How are they the only animals to become civilized?
How did Sumer become the first civilization?
How did democracy rise again after a thousand years?
How come monkeys are not as civilized as humans?
How come nothing can run faster than a cheetah?
How come these questions are not questioned?
How? How?How?

These questions might be asked,
But I guess no one answers these questions?
I will be the first,
To answer these questions.
For someone has to,
So why not, it be me.

Why?

Has it ever occurred to you,
Why we clap when we praise something?
Or why we mostly snap to praise poems,
instead of clapping?
Or why do we have names?
If it because it is easier.
Why aren't there names like ASK or A23?
Why is English the official language of some countries,
When the majority doesn't know it?
Why? Why? Why?

Why are these things like these things,
It makes no sense at all.
But I guess it has always been like this,
But then why was it like this?
I guess some questions,
The answer to them will be never known.

The Storm

This is a free verse poem I composed relating to my experiences in a storm.

Hoping for a storm,
Huge and mighty,
Grand and prodigious,
Where the lights go out,
Where trees fall to the ground,
Where there is a huge flood,
That is how a storm should be defined.

Instead,
I get a storm,
Small and Frail,
Where the lights are on 24/7,
No trees on the hard, and concrete ground,
And, where there is no flood,
Is that what the definition of a storm is?

Hurricane Sandy And Hurricane Irene : Two Hurricanes that changed New Jersey Forever

Imagine yourself in the middle of winds that are more than 70 miles per hour. You are trying to enter your house which is near the ocean, has no electricity and is flooded. This is very similar to the situation that people felt in Hurricane Irene and Hurricane Sandy. These are also two hurricanes that I have personally lived through. As most people in New Jersey know they both were Category 1 storms when they hit New Jersey. They both were devastating when they hit land. Both had their most casualties in the U.S.A. The eye of both hurricanes went through New Jersey.  Both broke records in New Jersey and both will never be forgotten by those that have been affected by it. But even with these similarities, their are tremendous differences in these hurricanes, especially in their statistics.

Irene and Sandy both had caused tremendous damage to New Jersey. Though, Sandy's damage was $52.4 billion, making it the 2nd costliest storm in the U.S.A. While Irene's damage was $16.56 billion, making it the 7th costliest storm in the U.S.A. Also Irene's damage was mostly because of the result of the tremendous amount of rain. While Sandy's damage was mostly because of the wind. Another huge difference between the two storms was that Irene at it's height was a Category 4 Hurricane. On the other hand Sandy at it's greatest extent was a Category 2 Hurricane. Another major difference is that Irene caused 56 deaths , in which 47 were from the U.S.A. However, Sandy caused 199 deaths, in which 121 were from the U.S. Also Sandy made landfall in New Jersey, while Irene made landfall in North Carolina. Another huge difference was the fact that Irene had a smaller diameter than Sandy. This also resulted in the amount of days it took for the hurricane to pass over. Sandy took four days to pass through New Jersey. While Irene only took two days.  Also, in Irene most people died because of flooding. In Sandy, most people died because of fallen trees. All in all, no matter how much damage or deaths each cause, let us hope that New Jersey will never face another storm like these two.

Washington D.C. and New York City

There are many places, that one would hear are amazing, such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas , or Philadelphia. These cities may be amazing. But not as amazing as Washington D.C. or New York City. Even though they are legendary, and have a few similarities, but they also share their differences.Especially the role they play in their country , and their status.
New York City and Washington D.C.both are big cities in the U.S.A. Both have similar climates. Both
are in the same time zone and are in the eastern coast. Making it easier to communicate. Both were part of the original thirteen colonies. Both are huge tourist attraction. While one has the White House and Capital Hill, the other has the Empire State Building and Times Square. They also have multiple museums. Both also have a train system that runs throughout the city.  However, even though they have this many similarities, they have huge differences.
New York City and Washington D.C., play a huge role in the United States. But, they don't play the same role. New York City is the financial capital of the U.S., While Washington D.C. is the national capital of the United States. New York City is the home of the New York stock exchange. New York City is also the second most important financial capital of the world after London. Also, New York is the Head Quarters of the UN. On the other hand, Washington D.C. is the home to Congress, Capital Hill and the White House. It is also the place, where most of the important decisions of the U.S. are taken place. Washington D.C. also has many memorials, such as the Vietnamese memorials, Lincoln memorial,Martin Luther King Jr., etc. As one can see, New York City and Washington D.C. have huge difference on the role they play in their country and the world.
Furthermore, New York City and Washington D.C. also differ in their status in the U.S. New York City is a city in the state of New York. It can also vote in Congress. While, Washington D.C. is a federal territories of the United States of America. Thus, it has some or no say in Congress. New York City, in itself has no electoral votes in a presidential election. Though, the state of New York has thirty-one electoral votes. While, Washington D.C. has three electoral votes in a presidential election. They both have no representatives in the senate. Though, the state of New York have representatives in the senate. But, New York City can make a law for their city and Congress cannot veto it unless it violates a national law. Washington D.C., on the other hand can make a law, but it can be vetoed by congress any time, no matter if it violates a national law or not. Therefore, New York City and Washington D.C.  have a huge difference in their status, one being a federal territory and the other being a city.
Times Square, New York city
All in all, New York City and Washington D.C. might be similar in a few things. But, tremendously differ in the role they play in their country, and their status. They both might be excellent cities, but personally, I would say New York City is the better and more important city, as it is the second biggest financial capital of the world, and the fact that it has some say in Congress is better than Washington D.C., where you have barely any say in Congress. But, Washington D.C. is unique in its own way, with all its memorials, etc. Therefore, there is no real comparison between the two cities and it is up to the people that have been there to decide which is better.

THE WORD THAT DESCRIBES ME

There might be a million words that people use to describe me, such as smart, interesting, witty, and sometimes annoying. But, the word I would use to describe myself is intelligent. This is because I can solve almost any math problem suitable for my age. I am also pretty good in English as I have good grammar skills. I am pretty good in French too. I can understand almost anything the teacher says in French. My knowledge of world history is excellent. I also know another language, Hindi. I am also intelligent in how do I use this intelligence. I don't use my gift to just help myself, I also use it to help others. I have helped my friends with their homework, by explaining it to them and not doing it myself. This does not only benefit them in the short run, but it benefits them in the long term, as if they get that type of question in the future, they will know how to solve it, instead of making someone else solve it for them. Whenever I come across challenges in my life, instead of panicking, I use my intelligence to solve it. This is why I believe that the word intelligent describes me perfectly.
