Washington D.C. and New York City

There are many places, that one would hear are amazing, such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas , or Philadelphia. These cities may be amazing. But not as amazing as Washington D.C. or New York City. Even though they are legendary, and have a few similarities, but they also share their differences.Especially the role they play in their country , and their status.
New York City and Washington D.C.both are big cities in the U.S.A. Both have similar climates. Both
are in the same time zone and are in the eastern coast. Making it easier to communicate. Both were part of the original thirteen colonies. Both are huge tourist attraction. While one has the White House and Capital Hill, the other has the Empire State Building and Times Square. They also have multiple museums. Both also have a train system that runs throughout the city.  However, even though they have this many similarities, they have huge differences.
New York City and Washington D.C., play a huge role in the United States. But, they don't play the same role. New York City is the financial capital of the U.S., While Washington D.C. is the national capital of the United States. New York City is the home of the New York stock exchange. New York City is also the second most important financial capital of the world after London. Also, New York is the Head Quarters of the UN. On the other hand, Washington D.C. is the home to Congress, Capital Hill and the White House. It is also the place, where most of the important decisions of the U.S. are taken place. Washington D.C. also has many memorials, such as the Vietnamese memorials, Lincoln memorial,Martin Luther King Jr., etc. As one can see, New York City and Washington D.C. have huge difference on the role they play in their country and the world.
Furthermore, New York City and Washington D.C. also differ in their status in the U.S. New York City is a city in the state of New York. It can also vote in Congress. While, Washington D.C. is a federal territories of the United States of America. Thus, it has some or no say in Congress. New York City, in itself has no electoral votes in a presidential election. Though, the state of New York has thirty-one electoral votes. While, Washington D.C. has three electoral votes in a presidential election. They both have no representatives in the senate. Though, the state of New York have representatives in the senate. But, New York City can make a law for their city and Congress cannot veto it unless it violates a national law. Washington D.C., on the other hand can make a law, but it can be vetoed by congress any time, no matter if it violates a national law or not. Therefore, New York City and Washington D.C.  have a huge difference in their status, one being a federal territory and the other being a city.
Times Square, New York city
All in all, New York City and Washington D.C. might be similar in a few things. But, tremendously differ in the role they play in their country, and their status. They both might be excellent cities, but personally, I would say New York City is the better and more important city, as it is the second biggest financial capital of the world, and the fact that it has some say in Congress is better than Washington D.C., where you have barely any say in Congress. But, Washington D.C. is unique in its own way, with all its memorials, etc. Therefore, there is no real comparison between the two cities and it is up to the people that have been there to decide which is better.
